Thanks to an inheritance we decided to build a caravan that would uniquely suit our needs. We like to go to wild places that seldom have any toilet facilities and in the past had used a "portipotti" that had many problems. It could only hold faeces for a few days. When shaken by travel the urine created a pressure in the container that forced it to leak over our shower floor. If we buried the contents we also buried the harsh chemicals that tried to kill the smell. We researched composting toilets on the web and concluded that although not designed for caravans a urine separating toilet could work in our van. We imported a unit and installed it. It worked wonderfully, no smell, no problems. Except the unit was too big for a caravan and too expensive for most other people in our country. So we worked on bog prototypes until we settled on the present design in August 2002 and began manufacture, launching our bog at the EcoFest held in our home town of Nelson (Nelson) every year.
Since then we have continued to show at the Nelson Ecofest as its popularity has increased and have made minor changes to the bog design.
Our region is known for its colour, alternative outlook and innovative people.
